It`s a long, hot summer with tan, well-built farmhands working in the fields from dawn to dark. But after dark, the overalls come off, the large organs swell with desperate desire, and the night partying begins. That`s what the press notes promise, anyway. The ho-hum existence of In the Hay is notone to probe when shopping around the foreign market. Sloppy editing and some weak sex scenes not withstanding, In the Hay is a shoe-string budgeted production with its only redeeming value being the cast doesn`t speak English.The flick mixes a batch of German and French guys into the loop and has them (barely) fucking in one lame scene after the next. If I didnt know better, Id say the cast and crew (including the director) have never worked in the industry before. Some of the actors arent quite sure what goes where and the lack of close-ups is a real dog.With a lack of fingering and even rimming, Im wondering if director Friedkenns intention was to make a safe, unsexy fuck-flick. It sure the hell is awkward, stiff, and uninspired. (You may find yourself - as I did - wanting to fast-forward through the 10-minute sequence where the guys prance around in the water.)
